111 recycled Coca-Cola plastic bottles.

Sometimes we feel that iconic products have to stay untouched and their design should not be altered. This is not the case however with 111 Navy Chair; to be honest we actually like the fact that through the iconic Navy Chair by Emeco and the iconic plastic bottle of The Coca-Cola Company a new chair was born_ 111 Navy.

111 Navy Chair is produced by 111 recycled Coca-Cola plastic bottles; the chair debuted during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2010 in Milan. The chair has been modeled after the original aluminum Emeco Navy chair which was designed in 1944 for the U.S. Navy.

The 111 bottles constitute 60 percent of the rPET plastic used in the construction of this chair. The remaining materials are a combination of colored pigments and glass fiber to ensure the strength and the durability of the finished product. Annually, more than three million PET plastic bottles are expected to be reused for the production of the chair. According to Kate Dwyer, Group Director, Worldwide Licensing, of The Coca-Cola Company “the 111 Navy Chair is a reflection of our commitment to sustainability, constant innovation and originality in design,” and we could only agree with her.

We should only note that through this design individuals should understand the value of recyclables and commit in an awareness regarding recycling and sustainable living as an everyday way of life. It is in Coca-Cola’s vision to recover and reuse all of their bottles and cans in the future.

Most Curious by Tracey Neuls and Nina Saunders

London shoe designer Tracey Neuls and Danish artist Nina Saunders have collaborated to create an installation using fabrics by British textile brand Sanderson at Neuls’ London shop.

Called Most Curious, the installation features a sculpture by Saunders with upholstery bursting out of a chair frame and spilling onto the floor.

Lego Kitchen

It seems that quite a few things will benefit from a Scandinavian touch. Munchausen, a duo formed by Parisian designers Simon Pillard and Philippe Rosetti, took a bold approach with their own kitchen by venturing to IKEA for the basic kitchen island and then spending the next week covering it with more than 20,000 pieces by another Scandinavian brand, Lego

The result is a one-of-a-kind creation that serves as an artistic centerpiece for the space, in addition to functioning as a kitchen counter. Pillard, who works with fashion house JC de Castelbajac, and Rosetti who works with Hugo Boss France Identity, formed Munchhausen in 2004.

Canadian design firm Βurdifilek has created an urban oasis within Atlanta’s newest W boutique hotel. The designers Diego Burdi & Paul Filek reinterpreted W Hotel Downtown with a verdant sanctuary that mimics the lushness of Georgia, while maintaining the brand’s celebrated cosmopolitan edge.

THE CLUTCH CHAIR

Made from 10,000 drinking straws, the Clutch Chair is an exploratory research piece that passes comment on our disposable culture. The development process of this piece also informed that of the Clutch Light, both of which were developed from an observation of the structural characteristics of trees.

This piece was selected by Zaha Hadid as her Curators Choice at Noise Festeval 2008

Concrete Things

Danish designers Komplot have created a set of concrete furniture for Swedish brand Nola.

Called Concrete Things, the chairs consist of concrete blocks with seats hollowed out, marked with a grid that was inspired by paving.
